This is the fat soluble form of thiamine and is really needed if you take B1 already. Your body absorbs way more. A doctor recommended this for our daughter who has a developmental delay among other things. This has been an amazing help!This is a powder. It needs to be measured with a mg scale. It needs to be put in a gel cap otherwise the taste is metallic.I utilize benfotiamine for diabetic neuropathy and (hopefully) long-term reduction in diabetic tissue damage. I have utilized many different brands and formulations over the past 30 years and normally notice an almost immediate (days) improvement in neuropathy pain.This product did provide noticeable relief from the neuropathic symptoms, so I can attest that it is effective. Additionally, the company was responsive to my questions prior to the order.The downsides of this product are:1) I ordered a 1/2 ounce package, which arrived in a ziplock package with enough room for a pound! This combined with no scoop (edit: found the scoop buried in the powder after a few days, so added a star) or other means to transfer the product to gelcaps, makes dosing somewhat difficult and slightly messy.2) The price is above average at the 1/2 ounce size, although it is closer to average at the larger sizes.3) Although I believe it to be genuine benfotiamine, there was no proof of third-party testing. This would add another star for me.This is a fat-soluble thiamine product and nothing else. You want a pill or a capsule? Too bad. This is just a powder. As it is highly concentrated, this is one of those products where people should REALLY know why they are taking it and why they want a powder that is not preweighed. If you are comfortable measuring out milligrams of a novel form of vitamin, this is the thing for you. But more is often not better. I got this for my dad who DOES weigh out his own vitamins but you should check with a physician before taking this or any supplement. Thiamine (B1) may be one of those things that all people don't have the same need for (like Vitamin D) but I'm sure there are medications that may depress your levels where additional supplementation may be clinically necessary. Like I said, check with your doc.I added this to my regimen for my (TBI)traumatic brain injury. This Benfotiamine powder seems to be of good quality.Dissolves well in hot drinks but it doesn't mix too great into colder. So you might have to get a little creative if you want to use it in smoothies but don't want it to keep the powdery grain texture. It does have a bit of a funky bitter taste to it but banana overpowers it very well.I've been trying to help my sleep quality, improve sleep and reduce night sweats, for a year. I was using a formula that seemed to work. They reformulated and now, I wake at 2 or 3, in a pool of sweat and can't sleep. I have been reading quite a bit because I am seriously concerned about lack of sleep and brain fog. It turns out that the stress and cortisol can effect your sleep, wake up up and melatonin isn't going to be the answer. I started using B1, and then heard about this activated form. I've been using it twice a day. I am seeing some help. I am waking up but I am falling asleep again, and I am not laying there for two or three hours watching the alarm clock. This is a recent order and I've only been using it for a few days, but the last few nights have been better. I feel more sleepy and sore in the morning, and I am having a lot of dreams that I am aware of. I haven't been dreaming much in the last many months.Ultimately I am concerned about age related mental decline and am doing everything I can to save the brain. This is just one of the many recommended areas of concern. Sleep quality and the effect that stress, and cortisol has on the hippocampus and over all brain/mind health.I prefer powders so I can add them to smoothies and save money over the capsules.5 starsGood supplement for nerve health. It's non-GMO and blends well with water or juice. No extreme flavors. Use precise measuring instruments.
